alan adelman 

  Alan Adelman - Current 2008-09 President
 

Alan was born Oct 2, 1943 Brooklyn NY he joined the Navy after High School, he continued his education with other Navy schools which allowed him to become an Independent Duty ( advanced) Corpsman.  His service was distinguished with various personal awards and citations.  During his military career, he obtained AA from Meredith College & B.S. Maryland Univ. (off Campus) 

 

Upon retirement from the service, he continued his public service working for the U.S. Small Business Administration, initially as the Regional Contracting Officer for ten years. Then he laterally moved positions and served as Loan Officer (Liquidation) and retired in Nov.1998.

 

He moved from Dallas, Texas to Poinciana with his wife, Grace and she became a naturalized citizen in 1983.  


 

Norman Salinsky -   First Vice President 

Norman is a product of the City College of New York and New York University. He has spent his entire career in information technology. He retired as a vice president for information technology for a division of Time Warner.

IN 1981 KISSIMMEE JEWISH COM BEGAN, ALONG THE WAY WE BECAME CONGREGATION SHALOM ALEICHEM, INC. HARRY, CAROL AND DAVID WERE PART OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS. HARRY DID THE SERVICES FOR MANY YEARS, WITH DAVID ASSISTING. WE MET ONCE A MONTH AT THE WOMENS CLUB IN KISSIMMEE.  SEVERAL  YEARS LATER WE  SEARCHED FOR A TORAH, ONE WAS LOCATED IN MIAMI, WE DROVE DOWN WITH ANOTHER MEMBER  AND THE TORAH WAS PURCHASED.  HARRY AND CAROL  PURCHASED THE MANTELS FOR EVERYDAY AND HOLY DAYS, AS WELL AS THE RIMONIM AND DEDICATED THEM TO OUR  PARENTS. AS THE TEMPLE TOOK SHAPE WE NEEDED A YAHRZEIT BOARD. WE TOOK CARE OF THIS AND DEDICATED IT TO THE WEITZENKORN AND LOWENSTEIN FAMILYS WHO PERISHED IN THE HOLOCAUST, HARRY BEING THE ONLY SURVIVOR OF HIS LARGE FAMILY.

IN 1994 OUR  BUILDING BECAME A REALITY. CAROL HERD ABOUT HOLOCAUST TORAHS AVAILABLE FROM THE WESTMINSTER SYNAGOGUE IN LONDON, SHE WROTE TO THEM AND EXPLAINED HARRY WAS A SURVIVOR AND SANDORE SALMAYNE WHO GAVE US A START BUILDING OUR TEMPLE, WAS ALSO A SURVIVOR, WE WERE ALSO A SMALL CONGREGATION TRYING TO BRING JEWISH LIFE TO KISSIMMEE A SMALL TOWN ETC.AFTER QUITE A LONG TIME THEY DECISED TO SEND US ONE OF THE TORAHS THAT WAS RECOVERED AFTER THE WAR. IT IS AT LEAST 260 YRS OLD. WE CONTACTED A FRIEND OF OURS IN LONDON WHO WAS ABLE TO  HAND CARRY THIS TORAH TO US IN KISSIMMEE. HARRY AND CAROL SPONSOR TO TORAH TO BE SENT TO US. WE AGAIN  TOOK CARE OF THE MANTELS, AND THE RIMONIM AND DEDICATED THEM TO  OUR PARENTS.

CAROL HAS BEEN THE TEMPLES TREASURER SINCE 1994. SHE HAS ORGANIZED THE BREAK FAST FOR YOM KIPPUR AND HAS ORGANIZED THE PASSOVER SINCE 1983.

HARRY HAS BEEN INSTUMENTAL IN KEEPING THE SERVICES RUNNING SMOOTHLY SINCE OUR BEGINING IN 1981.

Pat Wolfe  -  Recording Secretary 

Pat was born in Tampa and is a third generation Floridian.  She moved to Kissimmee in 1972 with her husband, Herb and two daughters.  Pat was a private detective in Tampa and got her real estate license before moveing to  Kissimmee.  She is a licensed real estate agent for the past thirty six years.  She joined the temple in the early 1980's when it was known as "KISSIMMEE JEWISH COMMUNITY".

 

Pat is a graduate of Webber International University.  She is past president of the women's council of real estate, served three terms as secretary on the Realtors Board of Directors, voted "REALTOR OF THE YEAR" twice by her peers, was A mediator for FLORIDA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS ETC.

LTC (Ret) Herbert Siegel (Past President)
LTC (Ret) Herbert Siegel is a retired Army officer with 25 years of active duty. He started out as an enlisted soldier. Both he and his twin brother went to Officer Candidate School (OCS) and graduated as 2nd Lieutenants in March 1960. Over the next 25 years he had assignments to various stateside posts and foreign duty in Korea, Laos, Okinawa, Vietnam, and Germany. Duties included Battery Commander in Miami during the Cuban Crisis (Feb 64-Spt 65), Battalion Executive Officer with a Nike Hercules Missile Unit in Germany (72-Jul 75), 24th Corps Artillery Adjutant in Vietnam (1969), and his last assignment as Professor of Military Science with Fordham ROTC in the Bronx New York (1978-1983).

After retiring in 1983 he established the first Army JROTC in Miami’s Killian High School. His leadership in this program lead to Dade Country putting in over 30 military JROTC programs. In 1998 he retired again and built a home here in Kissimmee near Lake Toho. He currently does substitute teaching in local schools.

LTC Siegel’s decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medals and the Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal. He also has been awarded the Special Forces Tab and the Combat Infantry Badge.

In addition to his Life Membership in the JWV he is a life member of the VFW, American Legion, Military Order of World Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Military Officers Association Of America.

LTC(Ret) Siegel has been a member of Shalom Aleichem since 1998 and was a past President and Vice -President.
